It has been brought to my attention that the Town of Christiansburg doesnt have an ordinance about erecting fences. Anyone can build any kind of fence right up against your property without you having a say about it even though it may affect the value of your property..
I was surprised to discover this just as I was when I discovered there isnt a noise ordinance either. These are two things that should be on the books to help ensure that residents do end up having good neighbors. WE want to know why is it so difficult to have these things in our town when other municipalities are able to pass ordinances such as these?
What if one of our elected officials or administrators had a noisey situation next to them early in the morning or late at night or a odd neighbor who put up an unsightly pink & purple polka dotted fence next to their nicely manicured home? The residents of this town who are bothered by things like this are angry & upset because they feel that it would be different if it was next to someone important, therefore the residents dont feel very important because our officials arent addressing these simple issues for US.
Do our leaders understand that WE are asking for help?
In this day & age we would like to make sure we have considerate neighbors or other citizens who think about others...neighbors who wouldnt want to do anything to interupt our quiet enjoyment of our own property. Many of our elderly residents are being over run with inconsiderate younger folks who dont have any respect for their comfort & privacy anymore. Many elderly residents are afraid to speak up and dont know how to advocate for themselves. That is where our elected officials must step in and think of ways to protect all of US, especially those who ask for help.
Simple ordinances such as these are necessary to ensure a peaceful tranquility in our homes. I urge the TOC to get moving on these two issues and respond to the requests of the people.
