Jerome Corsi is a discredited liar who is peddling another piece of garbage to continue the Bush-Cheney politics he helped perpetuate four years ago. His is just one of what will likely be many more lie-filled books rushed to print this election cycle, which are cobbled together from debunked Internet sources to make money and advance a partisan agenda. We will respond to these smears forcefully with all means at our disposal. ~Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor referring to Jerome Corsi's book,
"The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality”
The book might be a favorite among right wingnuts, but the Obama campaign is not going to respond to the lies in this swiftboating book by ignoring them as Kerry did for too long in 2004. They are hitting back by issuing a 40 page web rebuttal entitled "Unfit For Publication,” in which each misstatement or misleading innuendo in Corsi’s book has been meticulously picked apart by the Obama staff. The publication will appear shortly on the Fight the Smears section of Obama’s website. Because John Kerry was a victim of the same author who co-wrote “Unfit for Command” that damaged Kerry’s war hero status and, some say, mortally wounded his campaign, he also has set up his own site Truth Fights Back that is “…all about replacing smears, lies and distortions with intellectual honesty and an aim for truth.” Kerry says that his site will help Obama fight back against misstatements, innuendo, and outright falsehoods.
Media Matters for America “…dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media” since 2004 has probably been most responsible for persuading many in the main stream media to report on Corsi’s unsavory history of hate-filled speech and debunking the outlandish statements about Obama including the following:
- Corsi on Islam: "a worthless, dangerous Satanic religion"
- Corsi on Catholicism: "Boy buggering in both Islam and Catholicism is okay with the Pope as long as it isn't reported by the liberal press"
- Corsi on Muslims: "RAGHEADS are Boy-Bumpers as clearly as they are Women-Haters -- it all goes together"
- Corsi on "John F*ing Commie Kerry": "After he married TerRAHsa, didn't John Kerry begin practicing Judiasm? He also has paternal grandparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?"
- Corsi on Senator "FAT HOG" Clinton: "Anybody ask why HELLary couldn't keep BJ Bill satisfied? Not lesbo or anything, is she?"
- Corsi on Obama’s drug use including intimation that Obama is currently using drugs: “What I'm saying in the book is that people who admit that they've used drugs -- and Obama -- Obama said he used drugs through Occidental. And it was a lot of drugs.”
- Corsi on Obama’s religion: He has “"extensive connections to Islam" and a “secret radical Islamic agenda.”
- Corsi on Obama’s memory: Noting that Life magazine could find no record of an article that Mr. Obama remembered reading as a child about a black man who tried to lighten his skin, Mr. Corsi asks, "How much more imagining, hypothetical lying, or just plain lying is Obama capable of doing?"
In this election, at least some in the media are challenging the fabrications and deceptions in Corsi’s book about Obama. Media Matters’ article entitled “Media denounce Corsi's anti-Obama book” reports that Editor and Publisher, Washington Post, Politico, MSNBC, CNN, Commentary, Los Angeles Times, Time, and even Alan Colmes of FOX are among the media very critical of the book.
The book might be doing well, but most of the audience is composed not of conservatives, but of the far right wing fringe that has no regard for the magnitude and importance of the process of choosing the best person to be the leader of the free world. Political gain is more important than truth. We have suffered for eight years from the results of dirty politics. It is time for a change, and finally, Democrats are realizing that they must not be bested by the tactics of John O’Neill, Jerome Corsi, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, FOX News, and the radical right blogosphere.
