Democracy Prevails (DP) is an organization that supports political activism. Begun in 2004 by Henry Tieleman, it is a group that meets monthly to learn about and discuss the progressive agenda. A newsletter is published periodically to update citizens of the Ninth District of Virginia known as Southwest Virginia about the goings on at the national, state, and local political scene. Many others from all over Virginia, the United States, and overseas are subscribers to the newsletter. The organization's outreach activities to the Ninth District include providing literature, information, signage, bumper stickers, and buttons promoting progressive candidates.

The Democracy Prevails blog is an outreach organ to communicate the views and visions of DP progressives. The blog provides facts, information, and, most importantly, a forum for expressing opinions about political issues that affect our lives. The focus of the DP blog is to involve as many people as possible through the technology of the web. We value your opinions, and encourage you not only to respond to the posts, but also to provide information, present your views, and offer your considered judgment in a respectful manner.
